LESSON 1: BEGINNER BASICS

Discuss the camera, what the difference
is in different camera bodies (shutter speed and ISO are controlled by the camera),
and discuss lenses and the difference a lens makes (Aperture and Zoom are
controlled by the lens)

Wiping down the camera and changing the
lens.
HOMEWORK:
- Get on digital-photography-school and
browse tip for beginners.
- Read for class 2.
LESSON 2: APERTURE
BEFORE CLASS READ:

Discuss
Aperture (Have students explain it in their own words, answer questions)
To
understand Aperture, Set up several objects on a table at different
depths. Set camera to AV and take
pictures of the same object several times, only changing the Aperture.
HOMEWORK:
- Find at least 10 items to photograph, and try photographing the same items with different Aperture.
- Upload some examples to the website to share and critique.
- Read for class 3.
LESSON 3: SHUTTER SPEED, ISO, MODES

IN CLASS:
- Look over homework pictures (Bring your computer!).
- Discuss the different camera modes.
- As a class change the settings to see the different modes and how they change the exposure.
- Take a photo walk and try to get different examples of high and low shutter speed, and different depths of field.
HOMEWORK:
Use what you have learned to shoot the following photographs during the week and upload them to the site. (Make sure to label your pictures)
1) A photograph of an object up close with a shallow depth of field.
2) A photograph that is all in focus.
3) A photograph that shows frozen motion (i.e. the moving subject is in focus and not blurry).
4) A creative shot using a low shutter speed to show blurred motion.

- Discuss composition rules and tips, look at different photos to see examples of composition.
- Use a lamp to change the lighting on a subject and take pictures of that subject.
- Go on a photo walk and try to find different sources of lighting and compose pictures differently.
HOMEWORK:
- Find a subject to photograph and take at least 3 pictures of it from different angles.
- Find a subject to photograph and take a picture of the same subject in at least 3 different lighting situations.
- As a class- go to a fun location at sunrise or sunset and take pictures.
LESSON 5: MORE COMPOSITION, LANDSCAPES

- Discuss new composition rules and tips. (Bring your computer, we will look at articles together)
- Go on a photo walk and try to find different sources of lighting and compose pictures differently.
HOMEWORK:
- Re-read "5 Elements of Composition" and "5 More Elements of Composition" and try to take a photograph of each of the elements. (10 pictures total- downloaded to to website)
- Photograph a landscape using the tips from the lesson. Download at least 1 to the website.
LESSON 6: PORTRAITS AND TRAVEL
BEFORE CLASS READ:

Discuss the homework, view the pictures. Try different portrait techniques.
HOMEWORK:
- Do a portrait session with one of your classmates (or a friend), take at least 30 pictures. upload a few of your favorites.
- Go to a tourist location and take some photos of: details, the big picture, people.
